Roma Teachers - a Key to Roma Students' School Success
The project Roma Teachers - a Key to Roma Students' School Success is implemented in partnership with the Resource Center for Roma Communities.

Duration: 2007-2010 (36 months)
Target groups: Roma teachers, teachers of Roma students, Roma students in primary school, Roma story writers and illustrators
Objectives: - to support and further 10 Roma teacher trainers’ professional development by engaging them in the training of 2 groups (40 people) of Romani language teachers, Roma and non-Roma ethnic educators (who participated in 89 hours of teacher training delivered in 4 modules, covering topics such as: a constructivist framework for learning; reading and writing for critical thinking; cooperative learning; reading workshop; writing workshop; lesson planning and authentic evaluation)
- to provide tutoring to 100 Roma children who need to improve their basic literacy skills (reading and writing) using 20 Roma teachers trained especially for this purpose;
- to develop a set of 5 titles of children’s books (graded difficulty) which act as “mirror” and “window” (for Roma children to recognize their culture mirrored in it, and for non-Roma children to get to know Romani culture) and for which the project will train 20 Romani teachers.
Types of activities: training, mentoring, tutoring, development of tutoring program, production of children’s literature in Romanes
Deliverables: 12 Roma story writers were trained, 20 teachers participated in the first workshop on tutoring and mentoring; 100 teachers were trained in RWCT by Roma trainers.
